Access to Quality Education

One in every 10 Filipinos aged between 6 and 24 years old is an Out-of School Child/Youth (OSCY) according to PSA Survey in 2016.

More than 50% of the 3.8M OSCY nationwide belong to bottom 30 percent of families based on per capita income. Among the top 3 reasons mentioned for dropping out of school include early marriage or family matters (42.3%), high cost of education (20.2%) and lack of personal interest (19.7%).

One of the strategies under Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 is to accelerate human capital development. Particularly, it aims to develop and improve interventions to keep children in school and expand access to higher education.

To support these goals, PMI intends to:

Develop early reading habits among Kinder to Grade 3 pupils (5-9 years old)

Subsidize education cost of the poor but deserving students

Early Reader Program

It is essential that reading development takes place during the early grades of primary school. Hence, PMI will invest in developing the five core reading skills such as alphabet knowledge, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
