Violence against women has been existing many years ago in many different forms. In the Philippines, there are implemented laws to protect women’s rights and prevention of violence against women. The government has built campaigns and programs to strengthen their call of action for this phenomenon. But despite of this, Philippines is one of the countries that has the most number of cases of violence against women.
Aside from women, there is also an alarming number of violence against children in the Philippines. A study done by UNICEF and Council for the Welfare of Children in 2016 revealed 8 in 10 Filipino children suffer from a form of violence- and most of them experienced abuse at home.
To help the government reduce the vulnerability of children and women to violence, PMI will strengthen the preventive and rehabilitative services of local partners to:
Enable children and women at risk to protect themselves
Provide care services for the recovery of children, women and elderly who are experiencing physical, sexual, emotional abuse or physical neglect
